Just an e-mail I received...

I get lots of SPAM through my personal e-mails.  This one went to my work account.  Through our school's website....which has some verification levels.  It means someone took the time to do this. I'm baffled...

Sup Smoove,It was good to see you guys at Paint the Town yesterday.  I hope next year it will be back at Atlantic Station.  Lenox had the fans hafcdunfed; too many restrictions on when & where you could use a camera this is a fan event, am I wrong?  But I digress   Thanks for autographing my pic & posing with me.  I'll see if I can get you to autograph that one too when next I get the chance.  Maybe I'll use it as my profile pic! Good luck on the season!!!  (Hope you can keep the reigns on your temper, I was at the game on Thurs & didn't see you out there for very long.)  It's time for you to step up & I want to see you do it.  There's defininitely a reason you made captain this year!  Let's Go Hawks!!!Peace

So I Googled "smoove atlanta hawks" and got this image of Josh Smith with Kevin Garnett.  I do not look like either of these men.

JABBERWOCKY

JABBERWOCKY

Lewis Carroll

(from Through the Looking-Glass and What Alice Found There, 1872)

`Twas brillig, and the slithy toves
Did gyre and gimble in the wabe:
All mimsy were the borogoves,
  And the mome raths outgrabe.

"Beware the Jabberwock, my son!
The jaws that bite, the claws that catch!
Beware the Jubjub bird, and shun
  The frumious Bandersnatch!"

He took his vorpal sword in hand:
Long time the manxome foe he sought --
So rested he by the Tumtum tree,
  And stood awhile in thought.

And, as in uffish thought he stood,
The Jabberwock, with eyes of flame,
Came whiffling through the tulgey wood,
  And burbled as it came!

One, two! One, two! And through and through
  The vorpal blade went snicker-snack!
He left it dead, and with its head
  He went galumphing back.

"And, has thou slain the Jabberwock?
Come to my arms, my beamish boy!
O frabjous day! Callooh! Callay!'
  He chortled in his joy.

`Twas brillig, and the slithy toves
  Did gyre and gimble in the wabe;
All mimsy were the borogoves,
  And the mome raths outgrabe.

This Mad Me Laugh But Then Feel A Little Sad...

I don't think I have hidden the fact that I consider myself a geek. I love comics but never read any of Tolkien's books. I saw the movies and was sort of underwhelmed.

That being said, when I first saw the above picture of Sir Ian McKellan I chuckled but then felt a little sad that he had to wear it in the first place.

I have absolutely no difficulties with homosexuality. It makes me sad that some have SUCH difficulty with it (and apparently enough in my geeky community) that McKellan wore the shirt. If any community should be welcoming of those who are "different" it probably should be us geeks and nerds.

Dennis Miller once said "I'm left on a lot of things. If two gay guys want to get married, I could care less. If a nut case from overseas wants to blow up their wedding, that's when I'm right." Jon Stewart said gay marriage was fine with him unless he was going to be forced to "marry another dude". I think that is about where I am these days.

And on the flip side, I get a little frustrated with things that go the other way, like JK Rowling revealing (in an interview) that Dumbledore was gay all along...it seemed unnecessary. It took nothing away from my enjoyment of the books, but that's because it was never really in the books.

I don't know really where I am going with this. Maybe I should have just put the picture on tumblr and left it alone.

Random Image Time

My Google Reader is FULL of stuff that I don't always comprehend. It is a combination of sites I try to follow and keep up with, people I follow because they follow me on one of these many sites I belong to, or it is stuff someone I have connected with thinks I might like and they share it with the world.

To that end, a woman in England named Eve often shares the contents of a site devoted to cross stitching, but always with a twist (sometimes NSFW). It is from there that the below image comes from.

This stitch is a tribute to the late and hilarious Mitch Hedberg, based on this bit.

Violent New Mexico Soccer Player Suspended!

I was looking at some website this morning >ahem< PerezHilton >ahem< and stumbled across this gem.....the text after is from that other site....

Ya think?!

After seeing New Mexico player Elizabeth Lambert's violent behavior on the field, it has been announced by head soccer coach Kit Vela that Lambert has been suspended indefinitely!

Watch the video above to see Lambert's highly unsportsmanlike conduct against Brigham Young University during the semifinals of the Mountain West Conference Championship.

We're glad she's facing some consequences! You can't behave like that and get away with it!
