Big Papi: " I feel like I can lead off tomorrow."

Yo (expletive), I feel like I can lead off tomorrow.David Ortiz, shouting across the clubhouse at Terry Francona.
Mike Lowell: "He looked good running the bases. When he smells it he runs a lot harder. Maybe we should put some chicken nuggets out there."
Only three American League hitters have at least one triple in each of the last 11 seasons: Johnny Damon, Carlos Guillen, and David Ortiz!
"I'm an athlete, man."

Ortiz Sets New Record for 2010's Slowest HR Trot

David Ortiz broke out of his April slump in a big way, and he seems more than willing to enjoy the glow of is returning home run prowess -- to the tune of four home run trots that have lasted at least 28.95 seconds.
According to a website that tracks such things, David Ortiz home run trot last Monday night lasted 30.59 seconds, slowest in the majors this season.
But Ortiz has earned the right to strut. Including his two-run double last night, he's batting .359 with 21 RBI and a .781 slugging percentage this month.

Bay homers in 9th, Youkilis in 11th for Red Sox
Jason Bay homered off Mariano Rivera with two outs in the ninth to send the game to extra innings, and Kevin Youkilis hit a solo shot in the 11th to help the Sox beat the Yanks for their eighth straight win. (AP, 11:49 p.m.)

Even before tonight, Kevin Youkilis was on fire. Batting .429 with 14 runs scored, six doubles, four homers, and 12 RBI.
As David Ortiz recently said about Youk, "He gets up in the morning and he's already got a hit."
EDIT: I found the NESN video of the game ender here:

Some Sox Thoughts From Tony Massarotti

Time for a baseball post!
The Joy of Sox (I am sorry to say I just "got" the title this morning!) summed up Tony Massarotti's most recent Boston Globe chat thusly: Mark Teixeira will be playing first base for the 2009 Red Sox (with Kevin Youklis returning to third), we'll be stuck with Julio Lugo (or at least stuck with his contract), the Papi noise is just that, the Sox will make a deal for either Ranger catcher Taylor Teagarden or Jarrod Saltalamacchia, and Justin Masterson will stay in the bullpen.
And he mentioned Manny might fill the hole the Phillies have with Pat the Bat leaving town...

David Ortiz on winning the division or wild card
"If you're in, you're in. It doesn't matter. We won the division last year. We look forward to being back in the playoffs this year. I never noticed the difference between winning the division and going in as the Wild Card. As long as you're in, you're in. That's what everybody looks for -- being in the top four."
