The Empire Strikes Back is currently #28 on my flickchart list.
Do you remember when you first saw Star Wars? If you are a certain gender and a certain age, it was THE defining movie of your childhood. You were either Luke or Han when you played. You craved everything Star Wars.
Then The Empire Strikes Back came out and it added so many layers. You were blown away. “No....I am your father” rocked your little mind. Yoda letting the audience know “No. There is another” led to rampant speculation for a few years about where the story was going to go next.
This film is the reason I think one should watch the movies in release order...think of how...muted...this film becomes if you have seen the prequels first....

Yeah, I might have needed to have words with you if this hadn't been your choice for today.
ReplyDeleteOnly #28? For me, it's easily top 3.
Flickchart is a cruel mistress. We're actually going to a screening tonight!',
DeleteHello. I've been around much longer than you have, apparently. :). I will be 80 next month, but I have enjoyed all the Star Wars movies. I loved the Star Trek series with William Shatner and saw them when they were originally on TV. Your post was quite interesting. Best regards to you, my friend. Ruby
ReplyDeleteStar Trek is a favorite of mine, too!
DeleteI am young to be an original Star Wars fan, but growing up with two older brothers instilled a deep love for me, especially of the Empire Strikes Back. Glad to see this one today!
ReplyDeleteEven as a stand alone, ESB is worthy of praise!
DeleteOne of my brother's friends told us he pretended he was one of the Rebel pilots on Hoth when it was released. I'm going to say he was Dack. But who wants to be Dack?
ReplyDeleteBwah-ha-ha-ha!!
DeleteAnother of my favorites, although I liked the original better. And I'm still a Star Trek fan more than Star Wars, but I'll happily watch any of them!
ReplyDeleteYou must be interested in Abrams taing the helm of both reboots"
DeleteI got into it very late into my childhood. Luckily I saw all the films before the prequels came out.
ReplyDeleteNow I need to wonder what the new sequels will being us....
DeleteMmm, I don't know. I'm not holding my breath for the new sequels after the train wreck of the prequels. {{{Gag.}}}}
DeleteI don't know, necessarily, that the experience is muted if you see them in release order. My younger son saw them in release order (sort of), and I'm pretty sure it didn't dull the experience for him.
ReplyDeleteSo you don't have control over where something shows up on your list? I'm gonna have to take the time to look at flickchart just to figure that one out.
