I've Been Tagged!

As vacation winds down, one of the items on my "To Do" list that has yet to be done is updating my blog (I also haven't had a chance to sit and read any comics but we did paint and reorganize my son's bedroom, so win/win?).

Anyway, blogger extraordinaire, The Armchair Squid, has tagged me as someone who should answer the following questions.  So as the rest of the family watches "Harry Potter and The Order of The Phoenix", I figured I could squeeze in a post. (Wait, I also finished ALL the report cards for my three classes and typed up the revisions to our union's Constitution!)

1. What is your dream vacation?

Our family vacation every three years has been to the Outer Banks.  We are upping it to every two years to fit in two more trips before my daughter goes off to college.

As much as I love the OBX, I think I would like to one day visit one of those tropical islands where you have open aired rooms right in the water.  A private beach, a stack of books and no obligations.

2. Are you spontaneous or do you like to plan ahead?

I must admit, I like having a plan to start but can let the moment take me.  Some of my fondest memories include the shell of an idea, kicking things off, and then throwing caution to the wind.

3. Tell us one thing you want to do but don't dare do it.

That is a toughie.  We have tried two or three times to get on The Amazing Race, so by default I think I am adventurous to try most things.

4. What's your biggest phobia?

I really don't like clowns.  I'm not sure if it is a phobia, but clowns bother me.  Strange dogs do, too.

5. If you were stranded on a desert island-what three things would you want with you? (Not including your laptop or family)

Well that is just unfair.  Do I cheat and choose my comic book collection (as a single item) or our iTouch so I have music......ugh!

1.  Boo-Boo Kitty (one of our two cats and the best animal companion I have ever had)
2.  Picture of me, my brother and our three cousins at our Grandfather's funeral
3.  The hammock I built two summer's ago....

6. Name three blessings in your life.

Another tough one, as I don't usually think this way....

1.  My family and friends...something that has come to mean more and more to me as I grow older.
2.  My job...I am doing the one thing I always wanted to do, something that previous relationships prevented me from doing for so long.
3.  My (relative) health...yes, I seem to have the yearly health scare, have a few "big" events in my past and suffer a couple of chronic issues, all in all, day to day....I'm doing alright...

7. What was your nickname in High School?

I have NEVER had a nickname.  All through High School, everyone used my full name.  In College, it seemed EVERYONE in our circle had a nickname.

I think this is why I let my students call me funny names.  It was easier at the last school as I always had a carry over group who would pass on the acceptable nicknames.  Now it is a little tougher, with new groups each year, but this year's groups have tried...

8. If you could meet the President of the United States, what would you say to him?

The above image is photoshopped (forThe Onion, I think), but I think it might be kind of neat to talk to the President (who is only 9 years older than me!) about comic books and parenting....

9. If you could be any literary character, who would you be?

Can I count comic books as literary?  If so, I would pick either Nightcrawler (from the Claremont/Byrne days on the X-Men) or Batman from the 1980s.

Nightcrawler was one of my favorite characters growing up.  I love his carefree attitude and his ability to teleport.  Like most Junior High School students, I felt like a bit of an outcast and Nightcrawler, the epitome of such feelings, took it all in stride.

And if I was not going to be an outcast, then there was nothing cooler than Batman...in costume or in his secret identity..

10. What is your favorite quote?

Though I don't always follow it, I've grown partial to "It is better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak and remove all doubt."

-----------------------------

That was kind of fun....now who to tag?  I'll go with...

! (my wonderful wife's corner of the internet!)
smacky (though he might be too busy to do it)
mrs. smacky (who is still a bit of a mystery to me...)
Kate (who has a blogging project of her own right now, so...)
Kari Jo (an author I know in real life, who would benefit from getting out there)
