Happy Memorial Day

While he didn't die in service to this country, he was willing to do so. He was the bravest man I will ever meet and not a day goes by that I don't think about him.

  1. Memorial Day and Veteran's Day cause me immediately to think of Grandpa. I suppose you could argue that Memorial Day is now for him because, despite living into old age, now he too has 'shuffled off this mortal coil' and is in memorial. He certainly gave every measure of strength to make our lives better during battle and during peace time.

I really wanted to come up to S. Burlington today to visit his grave site and pay my respects to him and to Nana. It seems so trivial to say that it would have been too much trouble to get my family up there when Grandpa spent over a year in a POW camp living off of bread and water. We went to a Memorial day service here in Rutland. The people who participated did a nice job and the students who wrote essays reinforced the importance of Grandpa's willingness to lay down his life.

    Rest in peace.

  2. Memorial Day is for all who serve; I used to call Gramps and thank him for his service on Memorial Day, and he was always quite appreciative. *Today* U.S. Service People are dying from enemy attack; requiescat, every one of them.
