F is for The Fugitive

The Fugitive is currently # 4 on my flickchart list.

Now we hit the first movie in my list that I am sure will drop down in its ranking upon its next viewing.  While I like the movie, it is currently riding high on the list due to nostalgia.  I haven't seen it properly in over 15 years!

I like Harrison Ford, especially from this time...he was in his Jack Ryan phase...dabbling in romantic comedies like Working Girl and Sabrina...trying some morally compromised characters in Presumed Innocent and (to a degree) Regarding Henry...really acting and not just playing the lovable roguish scoundrel!!

  1. I remember how this movie really grabbed everyone by the throat when it came out. Those TV trailers were really great - and unusual. Why not try to sell a film with its climactic scene?

    1. In retrospect, I like that practice better than showing so much from the final acts of films now. I sometimes find myself "waiting" for the cool science I saw in the trailer. With "The Fuguitve", the scene was so awesome AND happened so early...

    2. My favorite movie for its TV trailers was Princess Bride. They mostly showed Miracle Max's opening scene - funny, but revealing almost nothing about the broader story. Of course, there's very little I don't love about that movie.

  2. It's been a really long time since I've seen this one, but I don't really remember liking it much. Not that I disliked it; I just wasn't grabbed by it. And I was never really in approval of Ford playing Ryan. He didn't fit the role after Baldwin established it. Mostly, I just hated how they screwed with the books, though, which had nothing to do with Ford.

You want to talk a good Ford movie where he was really doing some great acting, let's see The Mosquito Coast as your "M."

    1. There are two problems with the "M" scenario....

      1) There are higher ranked "M" movies on my list, because....

      2) I've not seen "Mosquito Coast".

  3. I don't know that you wouldn't drop it, but you'd still enjoy it.
