The Cephalopod Coffeehouse: Corrective Action by Gordon R. Kelly

I recently told the Squid and our colleagues that this book really reads like it should be a stage play.  It is dialogue rich and has very few "sets".

The story revolves around the machinations in a small New England town's medical community.  The protagonist of the story is Dr. Munro.  After his mentor, Dr. Wade Bowers, dies, he leaves Munro a lengthy handwritten letter.  The letter details Bowers' differences with a third man, Dr. Miles Warner.

If you are a fan of "soapy" reads or stories that explore the "secrets" that a small town holds, then this might be a book for you.

I have two caveats to share.

First, when my mother gave me the book to read, I was certain she told me it was a murder-mystery or involved some sort of crime.  The cover made me think the same thing.  I was about 120 pages into this 168 page book when I realized that I was mistaken.

Second, Dr. Kelly saved my life.  He was my eye doctor growing up.  At a check up before heading off to college, he discovered some abnormal swelling behind my eyes that turned out to be the result of a brain tumor.

So why am I sharing a book with you?  Well, the aforementioned Squid set up a Blogging Book Club.  Details are HERE.

Star Trek Into Darkness

I went to see this last weekend with The Armchair Squid, Wikes, their daughter and my son.  This marks the SECOND movie in a row that both the Squid and I remained awake through!!

I know reaction to this has run hot and cold.  Some blogging friends seemed to like it, while others walked out!

I liked it for what it was...a big action flick with some sci-fi elements.  Wikes called it STINO: Star Trek In Name Only...and I think she is right.

I proclaimed it my third favorite Trek film.  Squid asked what my top three were...

If I look at ALL 12 movies that fall under the "Star Trek" banner, here are my Flickchart rankings....

Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan
#46
 Star Trek: First Contact

Star Trek Into Darkness

Luke's Change: An Inside Job

I am not a conspiracy theorist but I do understand why some people are.  From what I understand, this is a parody of a 9/11 documentary.  With the exception of a MAJOR mispronunciation, this is so well done!

It made the rounds before the A to Z Challenge....I am not sure where I first saw it...perhaps HERE

‘Emma’ By Le Trefle

My mom sent me this via e-mail a few weeks back.  It makes me think of the Dunder-Mifflin commercial from "The Office" episode "Local Ad"...."Limitless paper in a paperless world."
