The Cephalopod Coffeehouse: July 2014: Devil May Care by Sebastian Faulks

I've seen all of the Bond movies and read a great deal of the "re-boot" books from the 1980s and 1990s.  I've never read a Bond book by Ian Fleming.  Sebastian Faulks claims to have written this book "as" Fleming.

Nan once told me she had read a Fleming Bond book that took place in Lake Placid, NY, where bond was in the story for all of two chapters.

I'm not sure what I expected.  I came close to abandoning this several times.  I actually completed three other books at the same time.

This book picks up from where Fleming left Bond...I'm not sure which book was Fleming's last but the setting for this one is the late 1960s.  There is some interest in reading a "period" Bond book but overall this one left me...unsatisfied.

The idea is simple: on the last Friday of each month, post about the best book you've finished over the past month while visiting other bloggers doing the same.  In this way, we'll all have the opportunity to share our thoughts with other enthusiastic readers.  Please join us:

2014 Tommy Keane Invitational At Dartmouth College's Hanover Country Club

Later today, my July entry for the Cephalopod Coffeehouse will go live.  Right now, I am teeing off at the Tommy Keane Invitational in Hanover, NH.  Past posts about the TKI can be found HERE.

I am a late comer to the sport but thoroughly enjoy playing.  Once again, this year, my brother and I are joined by our cousins Marc and Lars.  We will be matched up on day one!  I am looking forward to this incredible weekend!

Last year we finished 4th in our flight, a single hole behind Marc and Lars.

You can check in on our progress HERE or HERE!

A Bloggers' Film Society

My dear friend, The Armchair Squid, and I are proud to introduce Mock Squid Soup: A Film Society.  Each month, on the second Friday, we shall host a bloghop devoted to a particular movie.  We invite others to watch the same film and post their own reviews.

Our society shall debut on August 8th with Stand by Me, first released to theaters, not coincidentally, on August 8, 1986.  We hope that you, too, will watch this classic movie and join in our discussion.
